Context: Graduate instructor training at Purdue University
Audience: Graduate staff instructors in Purdue’s English Department
Purpose: Teach graduate instructors to create and teach research posters effectively
Tools Used: Pear Deck, Google Slides, PowerPoint
For this instructor-led training (ILT) with Purdue’s Introductory Composition program (ICAP), graduate instructors needed guidance creating and teaching research posters—a task most had little experience with, especially since posters are more common in the sciences. Time constraints made independent research on tools difficult. I designed a face-to-face training that incorporated interactive engagement and hands-on practice to address these skill gaps.
Places for notes are included throughout the facilitator guide.
This participant workbook page includes directions for responding to engagement questions, space for notes, and a tip for success.
The instructor-led training successfully equipped graduate staff with the skills and confidence to create and teach research posters. Participants reported high readiness to perform the training objectives, and the session received positive feedback from both learners and stakeholders. This project strengthened my expertise in applying Gagné’s Nine Events of Instruction, designing interactive adult learning experiences, and integrating technology tools like Pear Deck.
